The Little House

In the beginning of 2008 James had just graduated college, accepted a full time position, and bought a house. Assuming as a single guy that he’d be single for awhile, the house was small and in need of love. Plenty big for one person it had 3 possible bedrooms, 1 1/2 bathrooms, a nice sized kitchen, and an above ground pool with a pool house out back. The house was surrounded by trees making it nicely secluded. The problem with the house was that it needed some remodeling and updating in every room. Paint was chipping, cracks were creeping up the walls, windows were broken, and after a year of living there the roof and A/C both needed replaced. For a house built in the 1950’s, it was time for an update. None of it really seemed to bother James, or the brothers that temporarily took up residence there. He had wanted a project house to work on, and being single, planned on having a long time to work on it.

We met in May.

The ceiling fell in on the master bedroom that December.

When I moved in, June 2011, only the master bedroom and bathroom had been completed. With only one room completed I had to keep my clothes in boxes for awhile. I was frustrated, and I didn’t like the little house.

We slowly remodeled it during the next two years; 2nd bedroom, kitchen, dining room, living room, tore out the pool…none of it convincing me that I wanted to live there any longer than I had to. So in September 2013 there ceased to be residents of the Little House. We bought a new house, even though the Little House was not completed or ready to sell. It’s currently being rented, and will need more work before we’re able to list it when the tenant moves out.

Here’s the house James bought:
